2182 kHz it is the international medium wave band RT calling frequency, for distress, urgency safety communications medium. Frequency 2187.5 kHz it is the international DSC associated frequency for distress, urgency and security alerting system. Romanian Coast Station - Constanta Radio / YQI - provides naval radio communications 24/24 hours in these frequencies for ships which sail in the territorial sea and contiguous zone of Romania in accordance with the requirements of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). Also Constanta Radio has allocated frequencies in medium wave band for traffic of particular service, providing radio-telephone links from ship-to-shore, ship-to-ship, shore-to-ship with high quality broadcast reception, covering an area of about 150-200 nauticals miles. 2182 kHz and 2187.5 kHz are commonly associated VHF CH 16 and CH 70. Power output of the transcievers transmission equipment provides about 1 KW. Transmitters and receivers are controlled by dedicated software.
Routine traffic and transmission of navigation warnings, storm and gale warnings reports are transmitted in due time in ITU allocated frequencies, respectively 2748 kHz and 2332.5 kHz with class of emission - J3E SSB.
G.M.D.S.S. A2 area is an area, excluding Sea Area A1, within the radiotelephone coverage of at least one MF coast station in which continuous MF DSC (2187.5 kHz) alerting and radiotelephony services are available, as defined by the International Maritime Organization. On G.M.D.S.S. behalf, ships travelling this area must carry a DSC-equipped MF radiotelephone in addition to equipment required for Sea Area A1.
“CONSTANTA RADIO” meets international G.M.D.S.S requirements for area A2 by three main RX/TX ICOM IC-M802 each connected at 1 KW power amplifiers and remote controlled by a high tech marine dedicated software and servers. Those equipments are doubled by other two RX/TX SAILOR 6301 adapted for maritime coast stations. All mentioned equipments ensure constant average frequencies MF DSC (2187.5 kHz) and the subsequent service for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week , listening watch service for distress, urgency and maritime safety information radio traffic in 2182 Khz frequency.
The 2182 kHz and nearby frequencies have a reliable range of around 50 to 150 nautical miles (90 to 280 km) during the day and 150 to 300 nautical miles (280 to 560 km) or sometimes more at night. The reception range of even a well-equipped station can be severely limited in summer because of static fields. "CONSTANȚA RADIO” send acknoledge as soon as possible (H24) to all safety tests on MF DSC which are received from the ships in 2187.5 kHz and also to all individual calls for public communications, due to the G.M.D.S.S. Requirements.
